A BID to secure $4.4 million towards a 50 metre heated outdoor pool in Wangaratta will push full steam ahead in the coming weeks as the new Federal Government and its cabinet is decided.
The funding is part of the Rural City of Wangaratta’s $14.6m aquatics plan, which is number one on council’s ‘major initiative’ to do list in 2016/17.
Council has budgeted $6.2 million in 2016/17 to build the pool, with works potentially commencing at the start of next year.
As part of this, $1.5 million has already been secured from the State Government to build the hydrotherapy pool component of the plan.
Delays to the National Stronger Regions Fund application process came about due to the double dissolution of the Senate that dissolved the former government prematurely, sparking an early election.
Ministers were about to evaluate and decide on round three of NSRF applications at the time.
