ON Wednesday, June 14, runners from schools across the region competed at Broadford at the Regional Cross Country Finals.

Fourteen St Bernard’s students made it to the event after making it through their school Cross Country.

The top-five from each age group would then move on to the Ovens and Mitta Zone Cross Country, held at the Barr Reserve a fortnight ago.

This had students competing from as far as Bright, Yarrawonga and Benalla.

The top-15 from each age group then made it from the Zone trials to compete in Broadford, where an outstanding nine students from St Bernard’s made it through to the next stage, the Victorian State Cross Country Finals in Bundoora, which will be held on July 14.

“As a group they encouraged one another and cheered each other over the line and we were very proud of them.”

“We have never had so many children get through to the state level of Victorian Cross Country Championships before.”
