I’LL STAND: Carboor farmer Harry Bussell, pictured at his Alpine Dorpers property, confirmed yesterday that he intends to run as a candidate in the council elections later this year.

FOURTH generation Carboor sheep farmer Harry Bussell has publicly announced he will run for Wangaratta council at the October 22 election.

He will contest the South Ward and has named economic development and increasing the population as his primary goals during his potential tenure.

Mr Bussell told the Chronicle he wants council to be a ‘can do’ entity for business people wanting to invest in the rural city.

He also wants to ensure the smaller rural towns get their fair share of infrastructure funding.

“Economic growth is the most important aspect for Wangaratta moving forward and this can be shared across the rural city,” Mr Bussell said.

“I want to make sure funding is distributed fairly and equitably across the city because there are 3500 people in the South Ward.”
