Players battle for club titles

FIFTY players took part in the Wangaratta Lawn Tennis Club’s junior singles club championships in warm conditions on Saturday.

Participants showed real focus on court and as a result the standard of play was high, with many players lifting against strong opposition that they may not normally compete against.

It was great to see the competitive spirit and good sportsmanship on show.

The 10/U age groups were some of the most hard fought of the day.

Many players were participating in their first club championships and for some their first singles event.

In the girls’ event it was Sarah Henderson who was the winner with Tamara Scott the runner up, while Will Trompf outclassed all others to win the boys’ 10/U from Charlie Crosby.

Kate Edmondson brought her A game, winning most matches comfortably in the girls’ 12/U.

She and Beth Cope will often have a tight battle when they play and it was Beth who came runner up on this occasion.
