JOHN Brunner began the new year as he finished the old one, with another win in section one of Wangaratta Lawn Tennis Club’s Saturday afternoon aggregate.

Brunner chalked up his third straight section one victory, and fifth overall for the 2015/16 season, when he took care of business amid a quality field on Saturday.

But he had his work cut out getting his name atop the leader board, with Phil Peck providing fierce competition.

In the end just three games separated the pair, with Brunner’s win-loss tally of 22-14 just edging Peck’s 22-17.

Matt Curran (19-20) and Kevin Callahan (17-20) weren’t too far off the pace, but it was a tough day for Mark Brown who finished with 14-23.

In section two it was Brett Goodwin flying the flag, finishing the day with a score of 21-11 to comfortably get across the line from Pat Flynn (19-18), Carmine Adamo (18-16) and Lisa Beck (17-17).
