This year marks the 30th anniversary of the breed’s establishment in Australia as its own identity after formerly being part of the Illawarra breed.

The dairy cattle were produced from semen from ‘red’ bulls that came from Scandinavian countries which was brought to Australia to improve the Illawarra dairy cattle.

Greg Goulding, vice chairman of Aussie Reds, said to mark the anniversary Aussie Reds decided to hold their first on-farm challenge competition in Victoria

“We invited anyone who uses Aussie Reds to put their cattle forward for on-farm judging with the overall winners to be announced at our 30th anniversary dinner in Albury on January 13, 2016.”

Around 170 cows were entered across the state on approximately 24 farms.
