WANGARATTA Bowls Club travelled to Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort (YMGCR) on Saturday and came away with a great win to secure a comfortable position inside the top four of the division one table.

Ian Brimblecombe’s rink spearheaded the victory with a classy 35-19 win over YMGCR’s Les Spenser rink.

Trevor Wiedeman’s rink of Stan Siejka (lead), Lance Jenkin (second) and Terry Corrigan (third) were the only shining light for Wangaratta as they were soundly beaten at Wodonga on Saturday.

Wiedeman posted a comfortable 12 shot win (30-18), however, George Fox (17-30) and Peter Selwood (16-34) found their respective opponents too good on the day.

Wangaratta was at home to Moira on Saturday and posted a solid 11-shot victory.

Unlucky last week, Jack Dillon turned things around this week posting a four-shot win (22-18).

Wangaratta was never in the hunt against a powerful Wodonga outfit at Wodonga on the weekend.

Cheryl White’s rink of Pam Morris (lead), Lyn Kahlefeldt (second) and Margaret Fox (third) posted Wangaratta’s only win of the day, running out five-shot victors (31-26).

O&M region:

Ian Brimblecombe and Maurie Braden are both through to the last four of the O&M State Singles after they advanced through the quarter final stage at Wangaratta on Sunday.

Brimblecombe easily accounted for Frank Martin (Corowa Civic) 25-7, while Braden had to work much harder to get past club mate Matt Muller 25-22.

The pair will square off in a semi final in the New Year with the winner to face off against either Klive Liverton or Bob Harbridge, both from Wodonga.
