THE driver who fatally struck a cyclist on the Snow Road near Milawa on Saturday afternoon is continuing to assist police with their investigations into the tragedy.
Police were yesterday still seeking to make contact with family members of the 50 year old male cyclist from Rosebud, who was killed just after 4.20pm on Saturday.
Sergeant Michael Connors of the Wangaratta Highway Patrol, said the cyclist was on a recumbent bicycle – where the rider is in a laid-back reclining position close to the ground.
He said the cyclist, and the 51 year old Linton driver and sole occupant of a Nissan Patrol 4×4 ute, were both travelling west on the Snow Road, going from Milawa to Oxley.
It appears the rider has been struck from behind by the 4WD and has died at the scene,” Sgt Connors told the Wangaratta Chronicle.
The collision occurred on a straight stretch of road, within a 100 kph zone.
Sgt Connors said the driver stopped and rang triple zero to notify emergency services.
