Boxing event to raise funds for at-risk kids

LOCAL footballers will face off in the ring this weekend to fight in the Murray River Rumble.

The Murray River Rumble is a non-for-profit boxing event to be held at Club Mulwala this Saturday night.

The night will also feature amateur boxers from the around the area.

And Wangaratta trainer Thomas Young has been hard at work training his fighter, Scott Stiles, for the night.

“Scott and I are really looking forward to the fight and representing Fighting Spirit Martial Arts,” Young said.

“We were approached three to four months ago to fight in this event and Scott has been preparing hard since then.

“Scott is in the heavyweight fighting category, but we won’t know who we are fighting until the weigh in on Saturday.”

Sergeant Grant Churchin of the Mulwala Police Station and Murray River boxing trainer Matthew Kennedy created the event, with the aim of raising money for tutors and mentors to help kids under performing in school and who demonstrate poor educational lifestyles.
