Crops delight, for time being

CEREAL crops in the North East, particularly around Wangaratta, are looking set for a bumper season according to WB Hunters agronomist Graeme Talarico.

Mr Talarico, who covers the North East as well as the Goulburn Valley, said the local crops were shaping up as some of the best in the country.

“The crops are tracking pretty well here and they’re definitely better in the North East compared to the Goulburn Valley,” he told the Wangaratta Chronicle.

“The rain has come at a good time and I think the next two or three weeks without any rain won’t hurt them.

“They will need another decent rain by the end of the month just to top them off.

“If they get that I think the crops around here and a little bit to the north and those in Western Australia will be the pick of the crops around the country.”
