WANGARATTA City is through to the Albury Wodonga Football Association Cup final after defeating Boomers FC 2-1 in yesterday’s semi final at Jelbart Park.

And the Red Devils will be up against arch rival Myrtleford in the big game next Sunday after the Savoys outlasted Melrose FC 3-2.

Adam Burchell scored both goals for the Devils, who led 2-0 before Boomers pulled one back in the second half.

With Ryley Pasquali and Ryan van der Steeg both out of the line up, it took a team performance to get Wangaratta across the line, with 17-year-old Alex Reid playing a sensational game and Tom Frawley also starring.

Wangaratta coach Mario Antonello said the result was a win for soccer in the region.

“We really wanted to get through and play against Myrtleford in the final,” Antonello said.

“It’s great for soccer in the area – I don’t know when the last time a grand final wouldn’t have featured at least one team from Albury/Wodonga.”
