WANGARATTA City coach Mario Antonello was all smiles on Sunday evening after his charges followed the script to perfection, thrashing Twin City Wanderers 5-1 in the opening round of the Albury Wodonga Football Association cup finals.
Leading into the match, Antonello predicted a tight affair that would be won in the final 30 minutes.
Last time the two sides met, in round 19, the Wanderers got out to a 3-0 advantage before the Red Devils clawed back two in the last five minutes.
Antonello said the late goals in that game proved Twin City would be vulnerable in the dying stages once more, and the Devils exploited that fact on Sunday.
After Adam Burchell opened the scoring 20 minutes in, scores were tied up 15 minutes later and stayed that way until the 65th minute when Jon Shaw, freshly released from goal keeping duties, found the back of the net.
The floodgates opened in the final six minutes of play, with the Devils adding three more goals through Tom Frawley, Burchell and Ivo Madeira.
