They’re in, and operational across CBD, but not before some teething problems

TWO new parking meters were vandalised within hours of being installed in Wangaratta’s central business district on the weekend.

Screens on the meters, one in Victoria Parade and one in Baker Street, were smashed by one or more perpetrators.

Council is perplexed by the damage and has already ordered replacement screens through suppliers who have spent the week recalibrating certain meters.

“It’s just a senseless act that ratepayers will inadvertently foot the bill for,” council director – sustainable services Barry Green said.

The installation of parking meters also had its teething problems with delays due to bad weather, and calibration problems that didn’t allow people to pay for their desired time limit according to the zone they were parked in.

At Tuesday night’s council meeting Ken Clarke said he parked in Victoria Parade earlier that day in a two hour parking limit area.

“At a dollar an hour I put $3.50 in the machine and I got 59 minutes and 37 seconds,” he said.
