THE packed Oxley Hall fell silent on Friday night when a heartfelt message from the parents of toddler Charlie Ciavarella, the local toddler who has just received a life-saving bone marrow transplant, was read out.
The message from Tony, Merryn and Charlie was read out by Tony’s parents Jan and Cyril to the 100 or more attending the Superhero theme dance and relayed the family’s gratitude to all who had offered them support since Charlie was first diagnosed with the rare immune condition and through his subsequent treatment.
“Merryn, Charlie and I would like to thank everyone who helped last night at the fundraising event at the Oxley Hall,” the message said.
“As we played with Charlie before bed, doing some Lego construction, we were noting the time and commenting that the evening at the hall would be underway, and wishing we were there to thank you all in person.”
Fundraiser co-ordinator Sally Rodgers said you could have heard a pin drop when the message was read out and there were a few tears as well.
“But it was also a wonderful scene with so many children running around in superhero costumes and their parents dressed up as well,” Sally said.
“The night was a fantastic success.”
