THREE drivers had lucky escapes from serious injury this week in separate crashes around Wangaratta.

A B-double truck full of confectionery ran off the Hume Freeway at Glenrowan early yesterday morning and became stuck in a culvert.

Acting Sergeant Cameron Miller, of Wangaratta police, said one southbound lane of the freeway was closed and the speed limit reduced to 40 kilometres per hour from 9am into the afternoon with VicRoads at the scene to figure out how to remove the truck.

“It’s become bogged on the side of the road,” he said.

“In order to evacuate it, they’re going to have to excavate in front of the truck.”

The driver had begun his journey from Sydney earlier in the morning.
