WORK to create an extra 110 car parking spaces, starting as early as next month, hopes to lessen the vehicle frenzy often witnessed in the HP Barr Reserve.
The central sporting mecca of Wangaratta is often a hive of activity, especially during netball training or game day that clashes with various events that have similar scheduling.
Empty car parks are rare when junior netballers, swimmers, basketballers and footballers are all trying to park at the same time.
Tenders for the stage one car park construction close with the Rural City of Wangaratta on June 9, and council director of infrastructure services Alan Clark said this could have works starting as early as the end of next month.
“When the netball and other sports are on it just goes crazy down there at the Barr Reserve,” Mr Clark said.
“Works will involve the sealing of the gravelled area, appropriate drainage work and installation of footpaths.”
