Budget support, but also concern

IT seems most voters in the Indi electorate generally support the Federal Budget brought down last week, if Cathy McGowan’s MHR, Indi) listening posts are a guide.

She began her Budget Impact Tour Listening Posts with the bright orange caravan in tow on Saturday in Benalla before stopping at Wangaratta on Monday to gather feedback from locals.

“Generally there is support for the budget…the people who stopped by certainly seemed to like it more than the previous budget,” Ms McGowan said.

Changes to the Paid Parental Leave (PPL) system raised some concerns as has the delay for some tax concessions for farmers which won’t take effect until July 1, 2016.

“I met one mother already on PPL who had negotiated leave with her employee based on receiving part of her payment from the government,” Ms McGowan said.

“She raised the concern about what will happen to parents who are already on leave who took into account a government portion in their negotiated package with their employee?”
