ST Catherine’s Hostel is set to provide 31 extra aged care beds for the local community as part of a planned expansion they have lodged a development application for with the Rural City of Wangaratta.

The planned multi million dollar expansion will help provide more accommodation for older members of the population, and will bring the number of beds available at St Catherine’s Hostel to 100.

This adds to the 69 current beds (all adaptable to high or low care depending on needs).

Chief executive officer of St Catherine’s Hostel, Adrian Johnstone, announced the plan to residents at a meeting on Friday morning.

The planned expansion has been designed by local Neil Trabant, who was the architect behind the new Department of Justice building and has been involved in the design of other local buildings including the GOTAFE TEC building and Borinya school.

Once plans have been confirmed and approved, the construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2016.
