Sowing a bit of farm optimism

THE hectic three-week frenzy of planting their canola crop is almost at an end for the Martin family at Boweya.
Sowing began the week leading into Anzac Day with the autumn break coming just days after to produce some very favourable seeding conditions according to Ash Martin.
“We are certainly looking forward to it coming to an end,” he said on Friday.
“We’ve had a few 24 hour shifts shared between us and we’re looking at finishing this week.”
It’s a real family affair with the brothers Ash, Cameron and Robert, their parents Ian and Norma and the rest of the family pitching in to make the most of the brief window of opportunity to maximise the good conditions
“It’s been terrific so far and a bit of rain now would be ideal,” said Ash.
“We were very fortunate around here with the rain but there are some areas which are still doing it tough.”
