Charges on alleged $70,000 theft from business

A FORMER employee of the Telstra Store has been charged over the alleged theft of $70,000 worth of mobile phones from the Wangaratta shop.

Detective Senior Constable Neal Thompson, of the Wangaratta Criminal Investigation Unit, said the 30 year old Wangaratta man allegedly obtained high-end phone handsets while employed at the business.

“He’s been making up false contracts and obtaining mobile phones and on-selling them,” he said.

“This appears to have been going on since December last year.”

Detectives received information on the alleged deception and interviewed the now former Telstra employee on Tuesday.

He was charged with obtaining property by deception and theft, and was bailed to appear at the Wangaratta Magistrates Court in August.
