ALEX Carmody loves helping sick kids.
Since 1969 he has spearheaded Wangaratta’s fundraising efforts for the Royal Children’s Hospital, punctuated each year with the Good Friday Appeal.
“We raised $1500 in the Wangaratta area in 1969, which has risen over the years, and last year we managed to raise $160,000,” he said, conservatively estimating his band of collectors, and the generous community, has given over $2 million in the past 40 years.
Fundraising is done throughout the year, and Alex and his team will be at traffic lights within Wangaratta from now on, collecting donations from drivers, up until Good Friday.
On Good Friday itself he expects more than 100 collectors to be door knocking streets, accompanied by Wangaratta Fire Brigade tankers.
He doesn’t like setting totals, and is just hopeful people will generously support the appeal again.
“Whatever people want to give us, we take,” he said.
