MEMBERS and supporters of Save Yarrunga Pool are inviting the local community to come and join them for an “end of season” celebration at the Yarrunga Family Swim Centre this Saturday.

Group spokesperson Jenny Hart said the event was an opportunity to remind the community that it was the second last day the pool will be open, and they should come and enjoy it.

“We’re not considering it as the end of the pool, but the end of the season, because our aim is to keep the pool open, but it’s also a sharp reminder to the community that they need to come down in force to show their support for the pool to stay open,” she said.

“We asked council to assist us and open the pool for free and they wouldn’t do that, so we decided to host a day for the community instead.”

Ms Hart said the Rural City of Wangaratta had put no programming into the pool which was why it was underutilised, and instead focused their efforts of programming, maintenance and marketing into its indoor pool.

“The way you can see that is if you look at the single day of the year they put programming into this pool, which is the dive in movie night, and the attendance is up in the hundreds,” she said.

“Every other day of the season when they do absolutely nothing, there is low attendance.”

The end of season celebration will be held on Saturday from 5pm until 8pm, where there will be a free barbecue, music and activities and everyone is welcome.
