Pushing bike path linking Benalla to Wangaratta to bolster tourism
IT’S OPEN: Cutting a well designed cake at the opening of the shared path between Hamilton Park and Glenrowan were Sheree McKenzie and her children Gus and Layla.

A SHARED path connecting Benalla and Wangaratta via Winton Wetlands is a major priority of Tourism North East.

The path would connect up with the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail and give the North East an “international attraction” according to Tourism North East cycle tourism officer Steve Plummer.

Mr Plummer was at the official opening of the Glenrowan to Hamilton Park shared path on Monday and said the 1.6km path was just the beginning of something much, much bigger.

“There’s a bigger picture to all of this,” he said.

“Ultimately we want to link Wangaratta and Benalla via Glenrowan and Winton Wetlands.

“It’s foreseeable in the next year to get this project going.

“Benalla is already virtually linked to Winton Wetlands and trails within Winton Wetlands are already under construction.

“We’re already talking with the Rural City of Wangaratta about linking this trail with the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail in the future.”
