A NEW 25 metre indoor pool, undercover water park and children’s play area are part of a planned $1 million redevelopment at Mason Street’s Moore Than Swimming.
As debate continues over the future of Yarrunga Swimming Pool, and suggestions of a new splash park being developed in its place, plans for the South Wangaratta swimming centre’s upgrade are expected to be lodged with the Rural City of Wangaratta within the next fortnight.
Moore Than Swimming currently features a 16.7m x 12.5m salt chlorinated indoor pool and spa facilities which cater for swimming lessons, school groups, water aerobics, rehabilitation and birthday parties.
The centre, which opens six days a week (6am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 6.30am to 5pm on Saturday), is used by 12 schools in the region for junior students’ swimming lessons, and owners Lionel and Jenny Moore said a large slice of their customer base travelled from out of town.
The planned expansion, which will also include a cafeteria and babies’ play area, is expected to further increase visitation to the centre.
Planned works on the six acre site will add a 25m x 10m four lane indoor pool to the side of the existing pool, as well as a children’s play area using equipment purchased from the recently closed Kidzarus complex.
