YARRUNGA pool will be open for just 19 more days.

But Save Yarrunga Pool group hopes the bulldozers won’t roll in just yet, with the group offering to take the pool over, or assist council in running it as a community entity.

After the end of the current season on March 1 council plans to close the pool for good and build a new splash park at Mitchell Avenue Park.

The Rural City of Wangaratta has not waivered in its decision to close the pool despite a high profile campaign to save the pool.

Tim McCurdy (MLA, Murray Valley) has backed Save Yarrunga Pool group, which this week held a meeting to garner support for its activities.

While the turnout to the meeting was only half a dozen people, group spokesperson Jenny Hart said the resolve was strong.

“What we’ve said to council is that we are willing to volunteer to help turn this pool around,” she said.

“Let’s run this pool for one or two years and then make a decision.”
