THREE of Wangaratta’s best young athletes will get the chance to compete on the national stage later this month after being chosen to represent Victoria at the School Sport Australia Track and Field Championships.

Standout performances at the School Sport Victoria Primary Track and Field Championships, which were held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park, on October 27, helped Thomas Johnstone, Jack Boulton and Talia McLaurin earn selection for the Victorian team of 120 athletes who will compete at the national championships.

The trio will make the journey some 700km south to Penguin, on the north coast of Tasmania, for the national championships, which run from November 27 until December 1, and 10 year old Appin Park Primary School student Jack Boulton can’t wait.

“I’m excited, but a bit nervous,” Jack said.

“I just hope that I don’t come last, but I know I won’t because I don’t think my time was that slow.

“It all depends on the time you run on the day – not the time you ran on the previous day.

“So I just have to do the best I can.”
