TWO men facing drug trafficking charges over their alleged role in a major ice syndicate in Wangaratta successfully applied for bail in Wangaratta Magistrates Court yesterday.

Wangaratta detectives did not oppose applications by Jamie Partington, 22, of Wangaratta, and Ozkan Ciftci, 43, of the Melbourne suburb of West Meadows.

The pair were among 26 defendants named in court yesterday, charged in association with an alleged ice syndicate operation in Wangaratta between July 11 and September 11 this year.

Police successfully sought a court extension to serve all 26 defendants with their handup brief on January 5 next year, with all to appear for a committal mention on February 12.

Partington has been in custody since his arrest on September 11 on charges including conspiracy to traffick methamphetamines, trafficking and possessing methamphetamines.

His defence counsel, Charlotte Duckett, told magistrate John Murphy that her client was seeking bail, in part, to attend drug rehabilitation at Odyssey Houses’s Mollyullah facility.
