OXLEY resident Joe Cutler is preparing for his biggest challenge yet, having entered the 50km run at the Ned Kelly Chase, which is coming up on October 26.
Having reduced his body weight by 20kg since early 2014, Cutler is ready to test his newfound health, fitness and determination.
“I only decided to make the lifestyle change in April and started by running two kilometres, then four kilometres, then seven kilometres and then 10,” Cutler said.
“Part of the motivation was to keep up with our two very active boys, aged five and three.
“For too long I was unhealthy and overweight and now I feel energised, motivated and confident.”
Thirty-seven year old Cutler has been gradually increasing his distance in training.
“Joe should be fine,” running partner and Ned Kelly Chase organiser Justin Scholz said.
“He’s naturally nervous about the distance, but he ran 25km on the Ned Kelly course a couple of weeks ago at an even paced five minutes per kilometre, and had more left in the tank at the end.”
