A LOSS against Albury Wodonga Football Association’s bottom side, St Pat’s, brought about a disappointing end to what was, at times, a season of great promise for Wangaratta City.
While the season’s highlights included wins over highly ranked opponents Wodonga Diamonds and Myrtleford Savoy, as well as a narrow 2-1 loss to runaway league champions Twin City Wanderers, the Red Devils were unable to finish off in such positive fashion, going down 4-2 to the Patties.
It was a result not many would have picked with the Devils leading 2-0 at halftime on the back of goals to Jon Shaw and Lachie Busk.
But the side lost its way after the break according to coach Mario Antonello.
“Before the match we spoke about the fact that neither side could go anywhere from the positions they were in, so it was all about pride, both personal and for the club,” Antonello said.
“And the way we played in the first half really reflected that.
“Unfortunately we just fell to pieces in the second half.”
