THE call has gone out for artists to come up with a sculpture design worthy of council spending $30,000.
The sculpture will take pride of place out the front of the Wangaratta Sports Development Centre at the Wangaratta Showgrounds.
It will be the first sculpture to be commissioned by the Rural City of Wangaratta under its new public art strategy.
The strategy will result in council purchasing site specific sculptures every few years, with money that used to be spent on the biennial Current sculpture event.
Under the former system council acquired the winning work and then had to find a home for the sculpture.
Costs for the event were also considerable, with six months of preparation and security required to guard works in Merriwa Park for the weekend.
