Whitten rallies to third place

SIXTEEN-year old Luke Whitten had his first major success in motorsport, finishing third outright in a rallysprint near Yarck last Saturday.

Co-driving for his father, Peter Whitten, the year 11 Galen College student was required to master complex pace notes that described every bend in the 60km event.

The Powerplay Rallysprint, conducted by Melbourne’s Historic Rally Association, was only Luke’s second rally.

Driving a Ford Escort, the pair battled wet and slippery conditions over the five-stage event, in a field that included two-time Australian Rally Champion, Eli Evans.
