TWO goals in the final eight minutes of play crushed Wangaratta City’s hopes of defeating Albury Wodonga Football Association heavyweight Melrose FC at Lavington on Sunday.
Nonetheless, Red Devils co-coach Jon Shaw said the club was pleased to emerge from the difficult assignment with one point, having drawn 2-2.
Shaw said the Devils dominated the first 45 minutes, but couldn’t find the net, with scores tied at 0-0 at the break.
“We absolutely bossed the first half,” Shaw said.
“We set up quite defensively, with Mike Ritter on the right wing, Elliott Jones in the middle, James Wells on left wing and Mario Antonello up front.
“We realised we were creating a lot of chances, hitting them on the counter attack with long passes, so we made some tactical changes at halftime.”
