CATHY McGowan’s (MHR, Indi) “Indi Budget Impact Tour Report” has revealed an electorate deeply concerned about cuts in the Federal Government’s budget.
The Indi member received 726 responses to the budget, either in person, via email or on social media.
“The people of Indi are worried that this budget will further increase the gap between rural and city,” the report states.
“They overwhelmingly feel that access to medicines and dental care should not be determined by a person’s income.
“People are concerned that the impact of the budget on the healthcare system will be widespread.”
Indi residents also showed support for broadening the GST to raise revenue and avoid cutbacks such as denying Newstart payments for six months to those under 30, increasing the HECS/HELP debt and putting extra pressure on pensioners.
Ms McGowan said she would vote in favor of the budget in parliament, but look to make changes.
