THREE of Wangaratta basketball’s brightest young talents are making the most of their opportunities in the sport, joining the North East Bushrangers in the club’s inaugural season in the Big V league.
Alana Sutton, who is coming off two standout summers in the Country Basketball League as one of the Wangaratta Lady Warriors’ star players, said the step up to the Big V had been challenging, but very rewarding.
“It’s a massive step up from CBL,” Sutton said.
“It’s a totally different kind of basketball – much more physical.
“In school I was always one of the girls who hung out with the boys and played football and soccer, so I’ve never minded the bumps and bruises.
“I like to play hard, so this sort of style suits me fine.”
Sutton has relished the opportunity to play alongside Wodonga stars Rachel Jeffery, Sarah Mellington and Stacey de Koeyer, as well as reuniting with Lady Warriors coach Jason Bannerman, who is also coaching the Lady Bushrangers.
“I’ve always played against those girls, so to actually be on the same team and see how they operate is great,” she said.
