Magpies “happy” to lose Porter

WANGARATTA Magpies favorite Josh Porter has opted to chase an AFL dream after signing on with VFL club Werribee.

Porter, 19, will play this season with the North Melbourne aligned club to try to impress AFL talent scouts.

In recent years, the Tigers have provided an AFL pathway for key forwards, including James Podsiadly (Geelong/Adelaide) and Ben Brown (North Melbourne).

Despite the loss for the Magpies, coach Mark Knobel said he couldn’t be happier.

“As funny as it sounds, we didn’t want him to come back (to Magpies), we want to see him play the next level,” Knobel said.

“He’s got great athleticism, stands around 200cm and plays well in the ruck, so he has great attributes to play AFL.
