Lights could be switched back on for one-day cricket final

IT isn’t official yet but the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association may still get its wish to play its one-day grand final under lights at the Norm Minns Oval.

The future of the WDCA one-day final was thrown into unknown territory after the AFL scheduled a pre-season clash at the Norm Minns Oval in late February with fears it would have to be moved altogether.

But after some negotiation, WDCA president Gary Lidgerwood said he was hopeful the game would go ahead at the venue, a week earlier than originally scheduled, on February 1.

A meeting will be held next Wednesday to finalise match details and while the semi finals could be scrapped, Lidgerwood said having the match under lights was the main aim.

“That was the main emphasis,” he said.

“We really wanted to capitalise on the lights otherwise it’s a waste of a venue.

“Everyone has indicated to us that they want to play the match under lights.”
