Locals up for the chase

LOCALS tested themselves recently at the inaugural 100km Ned Kelly Chase ultra-marathon, which started and finished in Wangaratta.

Event organisers, Justin and Sharon Scholz, were impressed with the performances by the athletes.

“We had 150 entrants all together with a few locals in each of the events, ranging from the 100-kilometre solo challenge to the 25km relays,” Mr Scholz said.

“Of the solos, Wayne McMonigle was the standout completing the 100km in 12 hours and six minutes.

“This was Wayne’s first 100km event after having completed two marathons earlier this year (Wangaratta and Shepparton) and he should rightfully be very proud of that maiden effort.”

“We also had Lisa Beazley from Wangaratta team up with a lady from Sydney in the fifty-fifty,” Mrs Scholz said.

“This was Lisa’s first time past about 25km and so her finish time of five hours 28 minutes for 50km was fantastic.”
