REIGNING premier Bruck is looking to bolster its line up ahead of the impending Wangaratta and District Cricket Association season, with star Sri Lankan Lucky Perera almost certain to join the club.
Perera has attended every Bruck training session since mid-August, and the club has lodged an application to have him cleared from Myrtleford, where he spent the past three seasons, having played at Whorouly/Gapsted for two summers prior to that.
Since joining the competition in 2008, Perera has been one of the WDCA’s biggest stars, and in 59 club matches and 21 representative games he has racked up 2117 runs at an average of 27.14, as well as taking 105 catches and effecting 20 stumpings.
While the clearance has yet to be approved, new Bruck skipper Jordan Blades said Perera would be an invaluable addition at the Mill.
“Lucky is obviously a fantastic cricketer, but he is also a great fella,” Blades said.
“He is one of the best batsman/keepers in the competition.
“We’ve got a few young fellas at the club who are pretty handy with the gloves, so he will be a great teacher for them to have around.”
