Joseph caps off top year with trophy

STAR English import Steffan Joseph capped off a brilliant season with the striker taking out Wangaratta City Football Club’s senior best and fairest last Friday night.

In a thrilling vote count, Joseph finished just ahead of fellow imports Richard Hodgeman and Neil Smith while young star Tom Frawley was just four votes back in fourth.

Joseph finished with 23 goals in a season full of highlights and reached cult hero status after just a handful of games for the Red Devils.

Departing Wangaratta City co-coach Jon Shaw said Joseph was a worthy winner.

“You can’t argue with it – he had a great year with all the goals he scored,” he said.

“The stats probably say if Neil Smith had played a full year then he would have taken it up to Steff.

“But at the end of the day, Steff played the majority of the matches and he was a real standout for us.”
