McClounan predicts big crowd for final

THERE might only be one Wangaratta team involved in Sunday’s Ovens and Murray preliminary finals at the Norm Minns Oval, however, Wangaratta Football Netball Club president Col McClounan is still expecting a bumper crowd.

Out of the 14 teams set to do battle, 11 will be travelling down the Hume Highway from either Albury, Wodonga or Lavington.

Wangaratta’s thirds are the sole local side while Myrtleford’s C grade and Yarrawonga’s A grade are the other non-border sides involved.

But despite the lack of local sides, McClounan still expected Wangaratta football followers to flock to the ground on Sunday to take in a big day of sport.

“Wangaratta people love their football,” he said.

“Obviously the O&K have their grand final the day before but I think O&K people will look forward to the O&M matches on Sunday as well.

“Losing Rovers last week probably might hurt a little bit but I think we’ll get a good crowd, I’m certainly expecting one.

“It’s an Ovens and Murray preliminary final after all.”
