WANGARATTA has landed its first official signing for the 2014 Ovens and Murray season after announcing former Wangaratta Rovers utility Justin Hoggan as a playing assistant coach.
Hoggan has spent the last two seasons coaching Berrigan in the Picola North West Football League and led the Saints to the finals in both seasons.
Before that he played close to 80 senior games with the Hawks and was used to hold down key positions in both attack and defence.
Hoggan said he had spoken to the Hawks about a possible return but was happy to join the Magpies where he could continue his coaching development.
“I can’t wait,” he said.
“I had two good years at Berrigan but I’m looking forward to coming back to the O&M.
“Initially I spoke with Rovers and said that I was going to be back in town and I wanted to further my coaching but I hadn’t really heard anything back and in that time Wangaratta approached me.
“We went through a few things and they were really great so it was a pretty easy decision from that point of view.”
