A DEFENSIVE game plan has earned Milawa a second consecutive grand final appearance in Ovens and King netball, after defeating North Wangaratta in Saturday’s first preliminary final.

The Demons immediately stamped their defensive pressure, intercepting the first centre pass of the match from the Hawks, and cleanly converted it to a goal.

Milawa gained three early turnovers in its attacking end to hold the upper hand entering the first break, 15 goals to 12, after the Hawks regained composure to match the Demons late in the quarter.

Kate Finnigan was instrumental in helping the Demons carry momentum into the second term, snatching intercepts and brilliantly feeding the ball into Emily Canny and Jami Hunt.

Finnigan was forced to call time in a bizarre incident, when her shoe came off in the centre third, but the brief stoppage did little to hinder the Demons.

Late scoring chances were lost in attack, as the Demons finished off the match with an 11-goal buffer, 50-39.
