RUSSELL Ingall is set to take his last stand at Winton this weekend, with the 49-year-old set to retire from full-time racing at the end of this year’s V8 Supercar season.
Ingall, known as ‘The Enforcer’, visited the Glenrowan Tourist Centre on Thursday before he and his 27 rivals hit the track yesterday in the first practice sessions of the weekend.
“Ned Kelly was seen to be a bit of a bad dude, and I seem to have a similar reputation in V8 Supercars as well,” Ingall told the Wangaratta Chronicle.
“So I hope our weekend turns out a little bit better than what Ned’s did, because his team didn’t wind up too well, they got shot and hung I think,” he said.
“We started off really good this year, with a fourth place in one of the Adelaide races.”
“Unfortunately our normal circuit performance has been lacking a bit (compared to street circuit pace), so we’re hoping to pick that up at Winton.
“I’ve had a great success rate here at this circuit, I know it extremely well – I’ve raced here since 1996.”
