Hawks’ perfect lead-up

YOUNG STAR: Wangaratta Rovers’ Cody Schutt has made an instant impression since coming into the Hawks’ senior side and was one of the best with close to 40 touches last round.

WANGARATTA Rovers coach Mick Caruso says a loss to archrival Wangaratta and a clash with Myrtleford tomorrow is close to the perfect preparation for next week’s elimination final.

The Hawks and Saints will do battle at the WJ Findlay Oval in the final home and away match with the home side looking to bounce back from last week’s disappointing derby defeat to the Magpies.

Caruso was adamant he would have preferred a win last week but remained confident the Magpies and Saints would provide good tests ahead of their September campaign.

“Wangaratta and Myrtleford in the last two rounds is a really good lead-up for us,” he said.

“When Wangaratta plays at its best it can match it with anyone and Myrtleford is the same.

“They have got a terrific young list so they’ll be a big challenge.

“You only have to look at their second half against Albury last week – they outscored them 10 goals to six.”
