A STAY has been granted on Councillor Julian Fidge’s suspension from the Rural City of Wangaratta.
Cr Fidge’s application for a stay on his two month suspension was granted by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) this morning.
It means he will continue in his role as a councillor for the foreseeable future, pending the outcome of a VCAT review of the councillor conduct panel decision.
A date for the VCAT review is yet to be set.
Speaking after his hearing, Cr Fidge said it was “a little win”.
He said he was impressed with VCAT, despite initially being apprehensive about the tribunal.
“I was pleasantly surprised,” Cr Fidge said.
“There has to be an impressive reason to review a decision.
“If there is nothing to it then you don’t get a stay order and you don’t get a review.”
Cr Fidge’s suspension was due to begin this Friday.
More on this story will appear in Friday’s Wangaratta Chronicle.
