One-on-one battle

STAND TALL: Recently re-signed Magpie Daine Porter was in good form last round.

WANGARATTA faces the ultimate test in Ovens and Murray football today when it takes on Albury, however, coach Mark Knobel says the Magpies will take confidence into the match.

Back in round seven, the Magpies held a 19-point lead at quarter time after dominating the first term before fading away to lose by 53 points.

Knobel was critical of his side missing several chances to hold a bigger lead in that match and while he said the Tigers were the in-form team of the competition, he believed his players were capable of taking up the challenge.

“I rate Albury as the best side in the competition,” he said.

“When they are at full strength they have some great players, work well together and play some really great football.

“But against any side in the competition if we play the football we aim to then we will be competitive.

“I watched the game again the other night and I reckon we have got some really great match-ups against them.”
