THEY came, they saw, they conquered, and they probably gained themselves a few new fans in the process.

The Coodabeen Champions, stalwarts of ABC Radio for nearly 33 years, rocked up at Tarrawingee on Saturday, minus team member Jeff Richardson, and put on a show that regularly had the locals in stitches.

A crowd of listeners grew steadily throughout the two-hour broadcast, leaving Greg Champion to remark that it was one of the best receptions he had experienced.

“This has been among the very finest shows we’ve done in terms of community support,” Champion said.

“The amount of people here watching the show was well above what we were expecting.

“The atmosphere is just great, and now the work is done the real fun starts – we can enjoy a couple of frothies or something from the canteen and just have a chat to some of the locals.”

Ian Cover agreed.

“It was great – a fantastic crowd of wonderful people, and we really enjoyed ourselves,” Cover said.

“We couldn’t be happier with the hospitality.”
