WANGARATTA swim queen Belinda Hocking reinforced her standing as one of the world’s best after she picked up a silver medal at the World Championships in Barcelona yesterday.
Just days after making the final of the 100m backstroke, Hocking backed up for her pet event – the 200m backstroke – and didn’t disappoint.
Hocking took on American sensation Missy Franklin and challenged the in-form superstar at every turn.
Franklin eventually broke clear to win in a time of 2:04.76 but Hocking was close behind in second, stopping the clock at 2:06.76.
Cananda’s Hilary Caldwell rounded out the podium with the bronze medal.
After the disappointment of the London Olympics, Hocking’s silver medal was a terrific result after moving back to Victoria after several years in Canberra.
