Suspects flee after police chase

POLICE are still hunting for three people who managed to evade arrest after a chase from Wangaratta that ended with a crash at Lavington on Monday morning.

The trio was first spotted in a maroon Holden Commodore in Wilson Road at about 1am on Monday, but had to abandon the car because of a blown tyre.

Detective Leading Senior Constable Jason Bray, of the Wangaratta Criminal Investigation Unit, said they stole items from other cars on the road before eventually stealing an unlocked car parked up a driveway.

He said Wangaratta police pursued the car north along the Hume Freeway and even though the tyres were blown by stop sticks used at Wodonga, the trio kept driving on the rims until Lavington where the car crashed.

The car was abandoned as the offenders got away.

“We located stolen belongings in the vehicle,” Ld Sen Const Bray said.

“They’ve probably been involved in other incidents in Wangaratta.”

Anyone with information can contact detectives at the Wangaratta Police Station on 5723 0888.
