SOME 30 manufacturing jobs will be created in Wangaratta as a result of 50 set to be lost in Tasmania.

Bruck Textiles has made the decision to relocate its Devonport based Australian Weaving Mills Pty Ltd (AWM) to its Sisely Avenue site.

The decision follows a 12 month, company-wide review of AWM’s operations in Tasmania that confirmed that the AWM was no longer viable in Devonport.

Chief executive officer Geoff Parker said the venture would see a $4.5 million upgrade to Bruck’s current facilities along with acquisition of AWM equipment.

“This is a much-needed good news story for the manufacturing sector, which has been suffering over the past 24 months,” Mr Parker said.

AWM has been involved in manufacturing since 1952 and Mr Parker said the company had retained its market share of a decreased market by being responsive to retailers’ needs.
